Endovaginal ultrasound in Marrakech

Endovaginal, or transvaginal, ultrasound uses a slim probe gently placed in the vagina to look closely at the uterus, the ovaries and, in early pregnancy, the embryo. It often gives sharper images than an abdominal scan. This page explains when it is offered, how it is done and how the clinic protects your comfort and hygiene. It is informational and does not replace a consultation.

Endovaginal ultrasound in Marrakech

When is it offered?

In early pregnancy (to confirm and date the pregnancy, check its location and the embryo's heartbeat), for pelvic pain, bleeding, cycle disorders, suspected fibroids, ovarian cysts or an endometrial abnormality, to monitor ovulation in fertility care, and after menopause in case of bleeding. The doctor decides whether it is useful in your situation.

How is it done?

After a discussion and with your agreement, you lie on the examination table. A slim probe, covered with a single-use protective sheath and gel, is gently placed in the vagina. The examination usually lasts a few minutes. It is most often painless and may cause brief discomfort.

Preparation

No special preparation is needed: you do not have to fast. It is usually better to empty your bladder before the examination. Bring your previous scans and reports.

During pregnancy

Endovaginal ultrasound is mainly used in early pregnancy, when images through the abdomen are less precise. It is considered safe for pregnancy. The doctor uses it when it is useful.

Comfort, privacy and consent

The doctor explains the examination before starting and you can stop it at any time. You may come accompanied and ask for a person of your choice to be present. If you have never had sexual intercourse, tell us: another route of examination can be offered. See the gynaecological examination charter.

Hygiene

The probe is protected by a single-use sheath, then cleaned and disinfected between two patients. Details are on the Hygiene at the clinic page.

Results

The doctor comments on the images during the examination and gives you a report. Ultrasound does not replace the clinical examination: results are interpreted with your history and symptoms.
